We Have News...

Amidst all of the chaos of the smoke saga in March & April, Ken was offered a job in Utah. After flying out there to visit and check it out, he is accepting the job and expects to start in May! So that means that while we just barely got back into our house (and are still basically camping inside our home), we're transitioning from unpacking to re-packing!

The Packing Craziness

Unfortunately we can't just keep everything packed from when we moved out of our house for the smoke/soot cleaning because it all happened so quickly that;

a) it wasn't all packed efficiently and
b) we didn't have time to clean everything before we moved it out

...so we still have work to do!

This means we're unpacking all of the boxes, cleaning what still needs to be cleaned, throwing more things out, and trying to sell some things that survived the smoke but we don't want to bring across the continent with us! Then we'll re-pack and make an itemized list of what we've packed in each box for when we cross the border.

Why We're Excited About Utah

Utah is an exciting place for us to move to because Ken & I each have a sister living there. It's going to be really fun to hang out with them and for our kids to spend time with their cousins! I have a couple of friends from my University days who also live in Utah, and we have some other family & friends there right now, too. We're glad to be relocating to a place where we already know some people! Also, online shopping & shipping are way better in the USA! ;)

What We'll Miss about Canada

Most of all, we'll miss the long cold Canadian Winters. Not! I hear Utah's winters are a bit milder and shorter than ours, so you can add that to the excitement list! haha We're really going to miss our friends and family in Canada though. Ken & I have both spent almost our whole lives within an hour's drive of where we live now (with the exception of 2 years when he lived in Mexico & I lived in Idaho).

What this Means for Raising Memories

This blog is all about making memories while raising kids, and I share my thoughts and ideas largely through the stories of our own experiences. This means that not much will change with the blog; I may even be more active because we'll be having a lot of new adventures in Utah and I'll want to share it all with you!

How We're Feeling About It

The last 3 years have been a real challenge for Ken & I. Things really slowed down with his PhD and at times it felt like it would never end! We were so happy when he graduated! We were very ready to close that chapter of our lives. I'm so happy for Ken as he has found a post doctoral research opportunity that he's really excited about. I'm also looking forward to the adventure of moving to another country and seeing where all of this leads us! We don't know how long we'll be in Utah but I guess we're getting used to not being able to see too far into our future. All we can do is jump on, hold tight, and enjoy the ride (and hope we get a chance to steer a little here & there)!

I hope you'll join us as I continue to share the whole experience with you here!
