Bed-in-a-Box Comparison (Endy vs. Douglas vs. Logan & Cove)

With several unpredictable events in our life over the last couple years, we've ended up with a total of 4 different mattresses in 2 years! Today I'll share a comparison review of Endy vs. Douglas vs. Logan & Cove, to help you see how the different bed-in-a-box mattresses compare to each other!

We recently started sleeping on the Endy mattress and this seemed like a good opportunity to share some of our mattress-in-a-box experience. In this post I'll share our observations about a few different mattresses we've tried, to help you if you're shopping for a mattress-in-a-box and would like some real life comparisons to refer to as you do some research!

Endy Douglas and Logan & Cove Comparison

Endy vs. Douglas vs. Logan & Cove

We started out with a traditional springs & foam mattress that we tried out in a store before purchasing and slept on that for quite a few years, until it was time to replace it. At that time we decided to try the Douglas bed-in-a-box which we enjoyed for just over a year- until our house filled with smoke and consequently, we had to dispose of our damaged mattress. We replaced that mattress with a different style of bed-in-a-box that included foam and springs (this was the first I had heard of a bed-in-a-box with springs!) called the Logan & Cove. We brought that mattress with us when we moved to Utah and slept on it for a year before moving back to Ontario recently.

Recent Mattress Woes

Our move from Utah back to Ontario took months to complete and along the way, we faced several sleep hurdles! We downsized a lot before shipping our belongings across the country so our old mattress was left behind. Throughout our road trip we slept on many different hotel mattresses, in the car on the road, and then we shared a double bed with a plastic-y mattress cover while living at a cottage during our home search. We thought our sleep woes would come to an end when we finally moved into our new rental townhouse, BUT it turned out that the master bedroom smelled of cigarette smoke and we had many days ahead of us, washing walls and getting the room re-painted.

Although our new Endy mattress and accessories arrived very quickly after ordering them, the boxes remained unopened as we spent a couple of weeks sleeping on an air mattress in the living room of our new home!  Needless to say, we were THRILLED to finally unbox our new Endy mattress and have a bed of our own to sleep in!

Endy Bedding Review

Here is my report on the Endy products we've been using and how they compare to some of our previous sleep experiences!

Endy Mattress

Endy vs. Douglas vs. Logan & Cove Mattresses

We made an unboxing video (just like we did with the Douglas and the Logan & Cove mattresses) and the process is very similar. We liked that Endy included instructions on how best to unwrap the mattress (that was a first in our bed-in-a-box experience) and a handy little cutter to open the plastic with, without risking puncturing or cutting the mattress. We also noticed that the Endy had no unpleasant smells when we opened it whereas the Douglas did have a strong odor that lasted days. The Logan & Cove was a bit different from the other two, with a larger box because of its springs. This made it a little more challenging to maneuver.

As they are both all-foam mattresses, we found that there were a lot of similarities between the Douglas and Endy mattresses. They are the same overall thickness and both are made out of three layers of foam and classified as medium-firm mattresses. The foam layers themselves vary in thickness and Endy uses a foam they call "Endy Comfort Foam" with a unique open air cell structure to provide a balance of comfort and support, temperature control, pressure relief, and reduced motion transfer. The Douglas addresses these same issues in different ways (with a layer of "cooling gel foam" and a layer of "motion isolation support foam").

Our Experience

The main difference Ken has noticed in the feel of the mattress had to do with the thickness of the different layers of foam: the Endy seemed to allow him to sink in a bit more than the Douglas did, before hitting the firm layer of the mattress- which is good because it gives the comfort & support needed for his shoulders & hips when sleeping on his side, so his body is aligned well.

For me, as far as comfort goes, I think the Endy is more firm than the Douglas and less firm than the Logan & Cove mattress. I think the Logan & Cove was too firm for my body weight- I mentioned in my Logan & Cove blog post that I was hoping it would soften up over time. So it seems to us that the Douglas may be a bit better for lighter body weights, and the Endy a bit better for heavier body weights. Until someone makes a mattress that's different on each side, I'm not sure we'll find a mattress that's completely ideal for both of us. The Endy is comfortable to me so far though and I am sleeping well on it.I have been dealing with some back pain ever since our move that I'm working through (hoping to start some massage therapy soon) so I can't comment on how the mattress is affecting me physically since I think my back pain is caused by something else.

Note: There are now two Logan and Cove firmness options! At the time we got ours, it only came in the Luxury Firm but now you can also get it in Medium Plush. You can find more information on this mattress in this blog post.

Endy Pillows

Endy Pillow Review

I love the concept of the Endy pillow: it's full of shredded bamboo charcoal memory foam and you can adjust it to be the right height and firmness for you!  It has a machine-washable cover which is another bonus. I had been using a memory foam pillow before this, but it was one solid piece of foam, rather than shredded foam and I really like the fluffier feel of the shredded foam! Ken & I agree that we like the pillows and think they're a great idea, but we wish they'd send more filling because we thought we might like to fill ours a bit more.

Edited to Add: I just found out that Endy customers can request extra filling for their pillows for free through their customer service team, so we're excited to do that!

Endy Mattress Protector

Endy Mattress Protector

The mattress protector and sheet sets both come in a reusable red plaid Endy bag (shown in the photo of the pillows above). The mattress protector is water-resistant and has a top layer that wicks away moisture and has a cooling effect. It's also soft and comfortable so you don't even know it's there (unlike the plastic mattress cover we had at the cottage that really felt like sleeping on plastic, sounded crinkly and made us sleep hot and sweaty!)  It also fits the mattress perfectly because it's made for it, so it doesn't slide around like other mattress protectors we've used in the past.

Endy Sheets

Endy Sheets

The Endy sheets feel soft without compromising that "crisp" clean sheets feel. I love that they have a thick, super strong elastic band that keeps the fitted sheets in place. The pillow cases are the envelope style that I love and they fit the pillows perfectly. I mention this because we had another sheet set with envelope style pillow cases that were too big for our pillows, so the inner flap was pointless because it didn't stay in place, and our pillows showed at the sides just like a regular open case. What could be better than a sheet set made especially for your mattress & pillows?

Risk-Free Trial Period

All 3 of the bed-in-a-box mattresses I've mentioned in this post come with a trial period (120 nights for the Douglas and Logan & Cove and 100 nights for the Endy) so you get to sleep on your mattress long enough to decide if it's really a good fit for you! If you're not satisfied, you can return it with no questions asked, at no additional cost, with a full refund and someone will pick the mattress up from your house. With a promise like that, you can put your mind at ease and finally take the jump to give it a try!

  2. Finding the perfect mattress is so hard!! Ours is 12 years old because we're NOT ready to play that game yet of finding just the right one. We love ours, though it's getting old, now.

  3. A bed in a box is so convenient. That sheet sure dos look well made. I'm super curious about the pillows, shredded sounds more comfortable than that total foam feel.

    2. Hi Debbie, I just heard back and as I suspected, the Logan & Cove was launched with only one firmness (the Luxury Firm) which is the one that I reviewed. Then based on feedback, they released the Medium Plush. I hope that helps!
