Best Moon Palace Restaurants

Let's talk about the best Moon Palace Restaurants!

I recently posted about our return to Moon Palace Cancun, in Cancun, Mexico with our kids. In that post, I shared photos of our room and the pools but today I want to share one of our favourite things about the resort: the food! The resort is very large and includes more restaurants than you could attend during a week-long stay, but here are the ones we visited and loved! (Some of which, we remembered from our first visit to Mexico, 6 years ago!

The resort is all-inclusive, so all food (including room service) is included with the price you pay to visit. This is one of our favourite things because it eliminates so much stress from making the decision of what to eat each day, and how much to spend! It's especially great with kids, to be able to say yes to lots of things without worrying about an extra cost!

Best Moon Palace Restaurants for Breakfast

La Gondola: Italian restaurant by night, breakfast buffet by day.

Best Food Review of Moon Palace Resort

There are a few restaurants that host breakfast (and/or lunch) buffets during the day.  La Gondola was our favourite because of its beautiful interior! The stained glass ceiling and ornate decor was so impressive! We always felt pretty special eating breakfast there!

The breakfast buffets were pretty huge.  The photos below were taken from another restaurant's breakfast buffet. The displays were just as cool as the food selection! You'll find all kinds of options at the buffets, from made-to-order omelettes to fresh fruit, plenty of baked options, and some basics like oatmeal, fruit juices, and the kids' favourites: hot chocolate and fresh squeezed orange juice.

Snacks & Treats

There is a cafe in each of the lobbies (Cafe Bistro at Sunrise and Sweet & Coffee at Nizuc) at Moon Palace and they were one of our favourite places to visit for food because they're always open!

These were good for breakfasts and lunches when we were in a hurry, too.  They have savory crepes (made to order) and sandwiches available around the clock. The reason I loved stopping here was the delicious selection of macarons! The kids liked the chocolates, Paletas (popsicles), gelato, and cookies. My girls were big fans of the hot chocolate, and near the end of our week, we discovered that the cakes here were some of the best desserts available at the resort!

Best Moon Palace Cancun Restaurants for Lunch

Lunch buffets are always available (just like breakfast, these are hosted inside of restaurants that specialize in a particular type of cuisine for dinner, but boast large international buffets during the day).  In addition to the buffets, your lunch options include the cafes mentioned above, and several poolside options.

There are poolside bars, swim-up bars, and you can order a drink from your lounge chair at the pool. You can get fresh-baked pizza next to the pool or order tacos, nachos with pico de gallo and guacamole! Those were some of our favourite lunches, so be sure to check out the outdoor options and don't just stick to the buffets for lunch!

Best Dinner Restaurants at Moon Palace Cancun

The first thing I will recommend to you, for dinner, is our absolute favourite restaurant at Moon Palace, Los Caporales. We visited this restaurant twice during our week this time, and twice last time, too!  It's Mexican food and it's  all based on authentic Mexican food (my husband lived in Mexcio for 2 years, so we have a good tester).

Ken was a great resource for us, telling us what different things were like, from his experience living in Mexico, and we enjoyed trying different Mexican foods.

One of my favourite things about Los Caporales is that they make fresh quacamole for you, right at your table! We had a huge group with us on our last night at the resort- all the aunts, uncles, and cousins together- and the waiters handled our huge group of kids wonderfully!

Another Mexican restaurant that we tried this time and really liked was the Riviera Maya. We had reservations at this fancier restaurant, to celebrate our 16th anniversary as a family.

In my previous post about Moon Palace Resort, I explained that there are 3 sections of the resort (Sunrise, Nizuc, and The Grand) but I didn't mention that there's actually another area where there's a golf course. If you're there to golf, you can stay near the golf course and you'll be more removed from the rest of the resort. You do have access to it, but you'll need to travel by golf cart to get there! The Riviera Maya restaurant is in that area, so we had a fun golf cart ride to get there!

It's a beautiful restaurant and it's worth the extra planning to make a reservation and arrange for a golf cart ride to get to that area of the resort! I took a photo of the ceiling because even it was beautiful!

This restaurant definitely felt like a treat, with an amuse-bouche at the start of the meal and carefully plated dishes. We tried an appetizer plate that gave us a sampling of different dishes and shared it among us. I would have liked to have returned for a second night, to then order some of our favourites again! (Alas, there just weren't enough nights to do everything we would have liked to do!)

To make our anniversary special, a violinist visited our table and played the wedding march for us! We were also presented with a special anniversary cake at the end of our meal.

Our anniversary wasn't the only special occasion we were celebrating during our visit. Katrina's 11th birthday also fell during our trip. She chose Asadero Palapa (an outdoor restaurant) for her birthday dinner. The dinner menu at this restaurant was a big hit with all of the families we visited with and we thought it had the best desserts out of all of the restaurants we tried for dinners.

We took this photo the afternoon of Katrina's birthday before it got dark, to remember the restaurant she chose for her birthday dinner.

I'll share a little more about our experience at Asadero Palapa in another post where I'll talk about what it was like to celebrate special occasions at the resort, but suffice it to say for now that we were impressed!

The food really is one of our favourite parts of the experience at Moon Palace. We love that there are so many options and different experiences available!

  8. I've been to the Moon Palace in Cancun a couple times and absolutely loved it! I'll have to plan a trip sometimes soon so I can branch out and try more restaurants. I tend to be a creature of habit and eat at the same ones repeatedly.

    1. Yes! So glad you've been able to go! Yes, I know- we mostly went to buffets for lunch the first time we went, but this time we discovered all of the outdoor options, around the pools, and I'm so glad we did! There are so many options that you can just keep on discovering new things with each visit!

  15. If I get the chance to visit Cancun, I'd just stay at the places with all the delicious food. My family can go ahead and go to the beach, or explore where they want. They can just leave me behind. I will be fine as long as the food is that good! Haha.

  16. My friend and I go to Moon Palace ever year (we leave the husbands at home), and we absolutely love it there. We haven't eaten at Los Corporals for breakfast, because we love the variety of the buffet, but will have to try it this year. We love Asedero for lobster, and use our RC's to enjoy it thoroughly! We haven't been to the golf course for dinner, in a number of years because we weren't that impressed with the food, but I believe that the Riviera Maya is a new one so we will check it out! I try to book all of our stuff, well in advance, and we love the Tequila and wine tasting events. We have a favorite bartender at the Nizuc Lobby bar, and look forward to seeing all of them. Thanks for sharing this, it reminds me that there are still more options to try out! There is a sweet lady who brings out the ice cream cart in the afternoon, poolside, and she always has lemon saved for me, they are always so thoughtful.

    1. That would be an amazing girls trip!! We haven't been to Los Caporales yet for breakfast either- that'll have to be on the list for next time! Yes, we saw the ice cream cart during our trip too! But it wasn't a lady the time we were there- it was a gentleman who had a nametag calling him "the dancing chef"! :) He DID love to dance! Yes, it's nice to get to know people there! I saw something about a tacos al pastor cart that's new as well- and that's my husband's favourite meal, so we'll have to look for it if we can get back someday!
