These days there are a lot of bed-in-a-box brands competing for our attention! What sets one apart from another and how can you possibly make a decision about which bed will be best for you?
I've had 5 different beds over the last four years (due to various unique circumstances) and learned a lot along the way about how to find the best mattress for you. I'm excited to share that with you and tell you how you can find the right mattress for yourself!
I have partnered with GoodMorning.com and was provided with a mattress and pillows in exchange for my thoughts. All opinions shared are my own. Affiliate links are provided should you decide to purchase GoodMorning.com products from my review.
After too many uncomfortable nights on a mattress that wasn't a good fit for me but seemed to be fine for my husband, I finally logged onto GoodMorning.com and found The Mattress Matchmaker Quiz.
As I selected answers to questions about my current mattress, the position I sleep in, my budget, and more, I got excited about GoodMorning.com's focus on finding the right mattress for me personally- a contrast to the one-size-fits-all approach I had seen with many other mattress companies!
Inside the Mattress
The science of sleep comfort may be more complicated than you imagine, requiring multiple layers, each with a specific purpose, to provide maximum comfort.
Generally, each mattress aims to fulfill the following purposes: cooling, pressure point relief, minimized transfer of motion, and support.
In this post I'll be comparing the Endy mattress with two mattresses from GoodMorning.com (the Douglas, and the Apollo). Each mattress addresses these goals in different ways. Here's a breakdown of the layers inside of each of these 3 mattresses. You can also watch my video for more information and visuals of the layers.
Douglas
Cover: quilted, removable, moisture wicking natural fabric blend
1st Layer: cooling gel foam
2nd Layer: medium firm, meant for pressure point relief & responsiveness
Base Layer: firm to provide support & prevent motion transfer
Endy
Cover: quilted, removable
1st Layer: open air cell technology
2nd Layer: medium firm, meant for pressure point relief
Base Layer: firm to provide edge support & prevent motion transfer
Apollo
Cover: PolarMAX Cooling upholstery, moisture wicking & noticeably cool to the touch
1st Layer: Memory Foam with micro-gel beads and antimicrobial copper for cooling
2nd Layer: Open-Cell Memory Foam for pressure-point relief and airflow, with an added 3" of edge support
3rd Layer: Pocketed steel micro-coils contour to your body & allow airflow for thermal regulation
Base Layer: 2 load-bearing base layers for motion isolation & support
The following video includes some visuals of the different layers of each mattress as well as the unboxing process and other information about the 3 mattresses:
Fitting Your Budget
One of the things I like most about The Mattress Matchmaker Quiz is that it takes your budget into account. As much as we wish money wasn't a factor, that's not the reality for most of us, so the quiz will suggest the best mattress for you within your budget.
For a Queen size, here are the current prices for each mattress:
Endy - $850 CAD
Douglas - $749 CAD
Apollo - $1249 CAD
Sleep Trial & Warranty
You've done your research, you've taken the Mattress Matchmaker Quiz and you've got your recommended mattress match- but can you trust it??
If you're still nervous to make the purchase even after all of that, put your mind at ease because you've got a risk-free sleep trial, no matter which choice you make, and each of these mattresses comes with a warranty:
Endy - 100-Night Trial & 10 Year Warranty
Douglas - 120-Night Trial & 15 Year Warranty
Apollo - 120-Night Trial & 15 Year Warranty
GoodMorning.com's theory is that it takes you up to 30 nights to break-in your mattress, so they give you four months to really get a feel for it. If you need to return it, you have up to Night 120 to decide. They'll pick it up and send it to a local charity or recycling partner and you'll get a full refund.
Delivery & Unboxing
The delivery & unboxing experience for all 3 mattresses was very similar. They were each delivered to our door in a box. Inside the box was the mattress, compressed and rolled up, in plastic. The Endy box came with a handy little cutter to open the plastic with. We just used scissors for the Douglas & Apollo which was fine- I wasn't concerned about puncturing anything important.
We didn't notice any unpleasant smells with the Endy or the Apollo but did note that there was a strong odor from the Douglas that lasted a few days but went completely away.
The Apollo box was heavier (83 lbs) with its extra layers of foam and springs than the Endy (66 lbs) and Douglas (65 lbs). This made it more challenging to bring upstairs, but definitely worth the effort!
We have video of all of our mattress unboxings. If you'd like to watch, you can find them here:
Adjustable Pillows
GoodMorning.com's pillows came squished flat just like the mattress. It was fun to watch them slowly inflate to their full size! Just like the Endy pillows, these come with a washable cover with microfibre fill and an inner core filled with removable foam. This means the pillows have a fully customizable height for personalized comfort!
Our Review
At the start of this post I mentioned that I started looking for another mattress because although our current mattress was working for my husband, it wasn't for me. I had been waking up with a sore back every single morning without fail. I didn't know if any of my pain had anything to do with the mattress or not, but I was desperate to try something!
Douglas Mattress Review
The Douglas was the
first foam mattress-in-a-box we slept on and it’s been a few years, but here’s
what we remember as stand-out information:
- Softest of the 3
- Great for side sleeping
- We both liked it
- Was lacking edge support (most noticeable when sitting on the side of the bed)
Endy Mattress Review
Up until a couple of
weeks ago, we had been sleeping on the Endy. Here’s what stands out about it:
- Most firm of the 3
- Too firm for me- uncomfortable for side sleeping
- Comfortable for my husband
- No problem with edge support
- We slept hottest on this one (didn’t notice feeling hot on the other 2 mattresses)
Apollo Mattress Review
We’ve been sleeping on
the Apollo for less than 2 weeks, but here’s what stands out so far:
- Unique top layer of foam compared to all others we’ve tried (feels very firm at first, but you slowly sink into it for about 30 seconds until you’ve got support in all the areas you need it!)
- I’m actually waking up with less back pain! It took a few days & at first I thought maybe my sore back was just “me” and a mattress wasn’t going to help, but I’m excited to report that I’ve had several mornings in a row feeling way better. I can’t wait to see how this plays out with more time!
- Both of our favourite since the Douglas (hard to say which we prefer since it’s been a few years since the Douglas, but the Apollo does have better edge support)
Our Recommendation - How to Find the Best Mattress for You!
I really think that while one mattress might work great for us, that doesn't mean it'll be the mattress for you! That's why I'm a big supporter of GoodMorning.com's Mattress Matchmaker Quiz and that's what I recommend you do if you're still unsure after reading reviews- take the quiz and find out which mattress it recommends for you, taking into account the way you sleep, your partner, and your budget!
Then try it out risk-free! I only wish I had done it sooner!
Once more, here's my affiliate link to GoodMorning.com where you can take the quiz, and get started on your own journey to a better sleep!
Excellent timing! We've been thinking about replacing our mattress (it's also one of these foam-type ones). We prefer on the firmer side and edge support is important.

DeleteI like that Good morning.com has a lot of options. I've considered the Novosbed in soft. And they arrange the pickup of a mattress which is important to me, I bought from a different brand and I had to arrange pickup myself and send the receipt to them which ended up being a huge hassle.
