Meditation can seem strange or unfamiliar at first- that was definitely my meditation experience in the beginning! I've found that it can be both weird and transformative! In this post, I'll share my meditation experience and the benefits of meditation that I've discovered along the way. Continue to the end of the post to see two videos on the subject!
Meditation can feel weird at first. Initially, it may seem like you're not doing anything, and you might question the point of sitting there in silence. But if you're able to let go of those thoughts and just focus on your breath and being present in the moment, you may start to experience a level of peace that comes with being mindful and aware.
Mindfulness is about paying attention to how you feel through your five senses, including what you smell, feel, hear, and see. You can do this with your eyes closed or open, whichever feels more comfortable. By focusing on your breath and observing your thoughts without judgment, you can begin to let go of the constant chatter in your mind and just be in the present moment.
Don't beat yourself up over the thoughts that come into your head- the goal is not a mind void of anything! Instead, think of those thoughts as clouds passing by in a clear sky. When a thought comes up, simply acknowledge it and then return your focus to your breath. Over time, with regular practice, you'll learn to let go of distracting thoughts more easily.
Benefits of Meditation
For me, meditation has been a way to find peace and connection with myself. The way I describe it in the following video, my meditation experience is that I've been able to let go of the thoughts that surround and consume me. It's as if you can create an opportunity for your soul or spirit to peek out from behind the wall of noise in your mind. This can allow you to tap into your deepest self, the part of you that has the answers to the questions that the internet or other people can't provide.
My meditation experience has been slow-going at times, but I've found that bit by bit, I'm making progress. It's not an instant fix, but with consistent practice, I'm learning to be more present and aware, and to let go of thoughts and feelings that don't serve me. Meditation is an experience worth exploring if you're looking to find more peace and connection with yourself.
