6 Ways to Get Your Kids Ready for Back to School!

Summer has already come to an end here in Utah and although we've already started school, I know it's just around the corner for my friends back in Canada! Getting your child ready to go back to school may feel like a full-time job, but with these helpful tips they will be ready to go back and have fun in no time!

6 Back to School Tips

1. Get Back into A Sleep Routine

We have had a LOT of late summer nights over the summer! They've changed our kids' sleep schedules as well as our own and although it was nice for a while, we can't keep that up with the early mornings we'll be having around here so they can catch their buses each morning! If you've still got a week or two before your kids go back to school, take advantage of this time and start transitioning them gradually to an earlier bedtime before school starts so it won't be too much of a shock!

2. Prepare Breakfast & Lunch in Advance

With everyone rushing around in the morning, breakfast often gets put on the back burner. I tend to rely on cereal for a quick, easy breakfast but I have one daughter who rarely wants to eat it. For her we do oatmeal when we need something really quick but you can prepare in advance (maybe try overnight oats- I've been meaning to do this!) the night before so your kids can wake up, grab, and go.

The same goes for packing a school lunch. If you can do it the night before, your school morning will run way more smoothly!

For an easy parent-win, add essential vitamins to your kids' breakfast routine. FLINTSTONES Gummies Plus Immunity Support and FLINTSTONES with Extra C chewables daily supplements are big hits with my kids (who wouldn't be excited for a chewable vitamin that seems like candy?!). They're also a great way to help them maintain their immune function, which is especially important as they head back to school.

3. Post a Morning Schedule

Our mornings have always gone more smoothly when we have a morning routine posted! I have less reminding to do and the girls are a lot more independent!

4. Get Shopping Done Early

This one is a do-as-I-suggest, and not as I do... it is a busy time of year and stores with school supplies are packed! This year my kids are starting at 2 different schools (one in elementary, one in middle school) so I thought I was on top of things when I asked at the middle school & they told me not to worry- they provide all the school supplies the kids need. Talia came home yesterday from middle school with a list of things she needed though, so off we went to the store to battle the crowds- it would've been so nice to avoid that by getting the supplies in advance!

5. Stop Seasonal Allergies Taking Over

Every time the seasons change, allergies come up again! My seasonal allergies surface in the spring and my husband's surface in the fall. September is the beginning of ragweed season! It's easy to control your home environment, but not at school! If your child's allergy symptoms are playing up, you might want to try giving them Claritin Kids before leaving the house in the morning. It's non-drowsy and provides 24-hour relief so your child can learn (and play) at school all day!

6. Back-To-School Cleaning

With our last few days of summer, I put housework on hold because I wanted to fit as much fun into them as I could! Now that my kids are in school, I'm in catch-up mode! You might make things easier for yourself by decluttering where ever you can to make room for school clothes. Pay special attention to the areas where your child does homework, their closets, and their bedrooms. If you can start with things organized & ready-to-go, it will be much easier to keep it that way when things get busy with school!

If your back-to-school cleaning is kicking up dust, and you've got dust allergies in your home like we do, another allergy treatment to try is AERIUS Kids (I've found that sometimes I have to try more than one allergy treatment before I find the one that really works for me or my kids!). This one comes in a bubblegum flavour and is non-drowsy so your kids can help clean the house with you- no excuses! ;)
