52 Life-Changing Questions

Questions have a way of motivating us to think deeply and see things differently.  They can lead us toward life changing growth.  Questions are important.

We often approach the scriptures with questions, searching for answers, but a new book by John Hilton III and Brad Wilcox (published by Deseret Book) focuses on 52 Life-Changing Questions from the Book of Mormon.

They've chosen 52 questions to focus on- which is kind of perfect if you want to focus on one question per week of the year.  (Perfect New Year goal!)  I think it would be a good thing to do as a couple- to read a chapter together each week and discuss it and think about it during the week. Of course you could do this individually as well.

One of my favourite questions:

"Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God?" (Mormon 5:23)

From the book:
"The paths we take in our lives are also in the hands of God, and He can guide our steps.  Elder Richard G. Scott said, "The Lord has a purpose for you, individually....Discover it and fulfill it.  It will likely not be revealed all at once but will be unfolded line upon line.  As you pray and work hard, you will find threads of understanding that will lead you to the path the Lord wants you to follow for the greatest enduring, meaningful attainment, contribution, joy, and peace of mind. Faithfully and courageously follow those threads of understanding and direction."

The authors say that the book is meant to be a study tool to help us to think about and read the Book of Mormon differently, with the ultimate goal of helpings us become better. I look forward to delving into this book more, and taking the time to delve into the questions within it.

Lalaloopsy Birthday Party

For Talia's 7th birthday party, we did a Lalaloopsy birthday party theme. It was so much fun! The girls had recently been introduced to Lalaloopsys by their cousins. Their love of Lalaloopsys continues (and Talia's almost 8 at the time of posting this ;)

Get Happy! ( BillionClicks.org & a Coupon Code! )

Remember a couple of months ago I posted my interview with Hilary Weeks and shared her new CD?
I shared this video there, but if you didn't watch it then, you need to watch it now, because this is what today's post is all about!

Hilary Weeks sent me one of her clicker kits so I could try clicking for myself. So, I got my clicker and happily put my little happy face sticker on the side of it and I looked at it. Then I thought to myself, well I want to click it, so I need to think of something happy! So, I sat there and started thinking happy thoughts and clicking. Then I put the clicker around my wrist and started going about my day. Just having that little clicker with me made me consciously want to think happy thoughts! I don't know why, but there's something satisfying about clicking the clicker! So, I wanted to think happy thoughts. And every time I thought a happy thought and clicked my clicker, I wanted to stop and think of a few more happy thoughts so that I could click a few more times!

It didn't take long for my girls to notice the clicker (and it didn't take long for Katrina to figure out how to reset it). So, I explained to each of them what the clicker is for and that I was counting happy thoughts. Both of their immediate reactions were to tell me some happy thoughts and ask if they could click! So, it's become a communal clicker. The girls will come over to me and announce that they have some happy thoughts they need to click about! haha I love it! Yesterday Talia came home from school with a number of clicks she wanted to enter from her day! :)

One Billion Clicks!

Hilary's clicking website is called www.BillionClicks.org because they're on a mission over there, to reach a billion happy thoughts! You can go to the website and enter your clicks and be part of the tally! They've got 3.5 million clicks so far- think of the difference one billion positive thoughts could make! When you enter your clicks online, you can receive a free digital kit with downloadable quotes, wallpaper and more.

Great Gifts!

The clicker kits make great stocking stuffers, neighbour gifts, & teacher's Christmas gifts! (Some teachers use them in their classrooms- the students get to come up and click the clicker!)

One of my favourite parts to check out on the website is the store because they've got more than clickers there- you can find really cute books, journals, note cards, stickers, and more- and they're all geared toward positive thinking! It's a great place to look for gifts for people!

Coupon Code!

Want to get yourself a clicker kit?

From now until the end of the month of November, you can go to www.BillionClicks.org and use the coupon code HEATHER303 to order the Clicker Kit ($11.95 + shipping). For each Clicker Kit ordered, you'll receive a free clicker, wristband and sticker ($4.99 reg.) !

Disclosure: I received a clicker kit for review purposes and may receive compensation for sharing a coupon code with my readers if it is used

Some posts you don't want to miss:

This week I asked you to tell me what you think about my blog. Only 5% of the people who read that post actually left a comment... you see why I'm guessing? ;) Please go answer me, if you have a moment!

In other posts, I shared the Indoor Pinata we did for Talia's 7th Birthday Party, wrote about a new book by Emily Freeman, and introduced you to the new Little People.

I also wrote about our Halloween Morning.

Now, onto the November Link Party! I cannot wait to see a bunch of Christmas Ideas! :)

(I know something's up with the code for the button for sharing time- I'm not sure why it's not showing up. Feel free to link up even if you can't get the button code. It would be great if you'd just put a text link to my blog in your post, to say that you're linking up!)

Take Better Photos with the Camera You Already Have - Tip #1: Using Your Flash

Several months ago I gave a workshop on how to take better pictures with the camera you have. (You don't necessarily need to go out & buy a better camera to improve your photos! .. but if you WANT a new camera, don't miss the amazing giveaway at the bottom of the post!) I thought it would be something worth sharing here, so I'm going to share it in parts. Each Friday I'll share another part. If you have any photography-related questions that you'd like to see me answer, feel free to leave them in the comments
(or e-mail me). Perhaps I could do a post on a subject you're curious about.

Tip #1: Using Your Flash

Photography is creating images by recording light!
Whether you're using light-sensitive material like film,
or an image sensor like you have in a digital camera,
you're recording light to make a picture.

Given the choice, I would always choose natural light over artificial light. Natural light usually looks nicer/less harsh than flash (but if you just don’t have enough natural light, go for the flash! It’s better than no picture at all or a totally blurry one!)

Just Know Your Flash!

How close is too close?
(if you're too close to the person (or object) you're photographing, they will be over-exposed & look way too bright/white!) Experiment with your camera- take a picture and look at the screen. Is it too bright? Step back from your subject & try again!

[This is Talia when she was a tiny munchkin!]

How far is too far?
(if your flash doesn't even reach your subject, it won't help the photo!) Keep an eye on your camera's display screen- if your photo is too dark, come closer so your flash can reach your subject. If your subject is way too bright, step back & try again!

Once you figure these things out, you will be able to get better flash photos!
