Family Easter Service Project Activity

Several years ago, I shared a service-oriented family night activity over on Jedi Craft Girl's blog. I've noticed that my "You've Been Egged" printable has been popular lately, so I thought I'd share that family night activity with you here on the blog today!  Jedi Craft Girl is posting the 8th year of her "Walk With Jesus" blog series this year, so be sure to check that out for some great new ideas, too!

You’ll need 12 plastic Eggs & the items needed to create this Easter countdown. You can find a list here as well. – Prepare some small slips of paper and something to write or draw with for each family member. – Have an empty box or bowl ready. – Print the handouts and the “You’ve Been Egged” note.

Family Goal Setting (with Worksheets)

For several years, we've been holding a little family meeting where we all sit down and do a couple of worksheets to help us to figure out some goals for the year (and beyond).

We've tried several different goal-setting approaches throughout the years and there are a few goal setting worksheets we've found to be most helpful for brainstorming what you want your goals to be.

Free Printable Goal Setting Worksheets

This year, we broke these steps up into more than one family meeting, to make them more tackle-able and to give us some extra time to think about the next step.

If you're more of a video person, I've explained much of what I've written in this post in this video:

I hope sharing these ideas will give you some ideas & inspiration for how you'd like to approach goal setting in your family!

SMART Goals for Families

Choosing and writing down your goals is important, but don't stop there! Once you've decided on the goals you want to focus on, you'll want to break each goal down into smaller steps or goals, so you have a clear idea of what is required of you, to get closer to achieving that final goal.

This post explains the SMART Goals acronym so you can teach it to your kids and guide them through making their goals "SMART". There's also a free printable worksheet at the end of the post that you can print out for your family members (adults too!) to work through each of your goals.

How to teach the S.M.A.R.T. Goal Setting Acronym

A great way to break your goals down is by using the SMART Goals acronym!

SMART stands for:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable/Achievable
Realistic/Relevant
Time Bound

You can take a goal and ask yourself how to answer whether it is each of those things, and if not- how can you tweak it, to make it a "smarter" goal. Here are some ideas of how you can take your goal and transform it into a SMART goal:

Best Restaurants at Moon Palace Cancun

I recently posted about our return to Moon Palace Cancun, in Cancun, Mexico with our kids. In that post, I shared photos of our room and the pools but today I want to share one of our favourite things about the resort: the food! The resort is very large and includes more restaurants than you could attend during a week-long stay, but here are the ones we visited and loved! (Some of which, we remembered from our first visit to Mexico, 6 years ago!

Best Food at Moon Palace Mexico

The resort is all-inclusive, so all food (including room service) is included with the price you pay to visit. This is one of our favourite things because it eliminates so much stress from making the decision of what to eat each day, and how much to spend! It's especially great with kids, to be able to say yes to lots of things without worrying about an extra cost!

5 Benefits of Goal Setting & Planning

This year I'm sharing my thoughts on several personal development topics. Last month's focus was on decluttering because I find it helpful to get things simplified and organized before taking on a new project. (If you're interested, you can always go back & try the 31 Days to Declutter Challenge any time) In February, I'm focusing on goal setting and planning. This year I have put a renewed effort into goal setting and planning and I'm already noticing a lot of benefits from it!

How breaking goals up into smaller steps helps

Today's post focuses on 5 Benefits I've noticed from setting goals, planning them out, and organizing those plans into a daily/weekly/monthly planner.

Our Family Trip to Moon Palace Cancun

We surprised our kids with an early Christmas this year and told them we'd be going to Mexico for a week in December, with some of their aunts, uncles, & cousins! We had a great trip and I have been looking forward to sharing photos with you here, and filling you in on the resort we visited. There have been quite a few questions about Moon Palace since I started sharing our trip in my Instagram stories!

Blog Review of Moon Palace Resort in Mexico

Ken & I went to Mexico 6 years ago, for our 10th anniversary and we loved the resort we stayed at in Cancun. We dreamed of going back to Mexico someday with our kids, but weren't sure how we would make it happen. Then a year ago, Ken's sister & her husband went to Mexico for their anniversary and ended up becoming members of the Palace Vacation Club (which meant that they had a certain number of discounted weeks at Palace resorts) and they offered the discount to us and some other family members. We were so excited to be able to make this trip happen, and to do it with some of Ken's family and our kids' cousins! We also partnered with Palace Resorts who upgraded our room to a Family Suite so we could show you all of the special features available at the resort for families with kids, and I can't wait to show you!
