Lessons on Quitting From Sara Beth Liebe, American Idol Contestant

Is quitting always a bad thing? It's common to think of quitting as a sign of weakness, that it's giving up before the finish line. But what if quitting could actually be a wise decision, one that leads us to a better path in life?

That's what my latest YouTube video is all about.

In a world that values perseverance, hustling, and "never give up" mantras, it can be difficult to see quitting as anything other than a failure. However, the truth is that sometimes we need to quit in order to move forward. If we're on a path that isn't leading us where we want to go, sticking to it just because we're afraid of quitting won't do us any favours!

In the video I shared above, I reference Sara Beth Liebe, a contestant on American Idol 2023.  She auditioned and went through the "Hollywood" round of auditions, but instead of being eliminated, she quit the show. Many saw her decision as foolish and a missed opportunity. But Sara saw it differently. She knew that she didn't want to pursue a career in music this way if it meant compromising time at home with her young kids. I'm sure plenty of other factors came into consideration for her, but my point in sharing her story is that her decision has allowed her to pursue a path that feels true to her (and she continues to pursue music in other ways).

Sara's story is a great example of how quitting can actually be a smart move. Sometimes we need to try something out before we can truly know if it's the right path for us. We may think we want something, only to discover that it doesn't fulfill us or align with our values. When this happens, quitting can be an important step in finding our true purpose. By eliminating the wrong path, we're able to focus on the right one.

Of course, this isn't to say that we should quit every time things get tough or we encounter obstacles. There's a difference between quitting out of fear or laziness and quitting because we've realized that something isn't right for us. It takes self-awareness and courage to make the decision to quit, but when we do, it can open up new possibilities and opportunities that we may not have seen before.

So the next time you're faced with a decision about whether to quit or continue on a path, consider whether it aligns with your values and goals. If it doesn't, quitting might just be the best decision you ever make. Remember, sometimes the wrong path can lead you to the right one!
