Spend Focussed Time to Make Memories With Your Kids

It's interesting how this wasn't an issue when I was a kid. Cell phones, the internet, tablets, computers... all of these things have added so much good and so much bad to our lives. We can use them in many different ways, and they can affect us in different ways, depending on the choices that we make about how (and when) we use them.

I haven't been very active on the blog lately, and that's because I've been trying to avoid being on the computer too much while my kids are home for summer break. I saw this video today and was reassured that this is the right choice for me right now. This is the only summer that my kids will be this age. I don't want to look back on this time with regret, or wondering if I missed things because I was absorbed in blogging.

The whole point of this blog, from the beginning, was to inspire me and to inspire others to do fun things with their kids- to spend time with them, making memories while raising them.

So, posts are likely to be sparse for the remainder of our summer break and then pick up again in the Fall. I hope you're all making the best of your time with your kids this summer, too!

This video has reminded me not only to spend time with my kids, but to continue to make sure that I'm really focussed on them during the time I'm with them. If you've got a few minutes, I think you'll appreciate this video!

  1. Putting the phone away makes more fun

  2. Sometimes my kids remind me to put the phone away and other times it's just not possible when running a business and that's okay. Everyone makes it work as best they can. I am very conscious that we never ever have phones at the dinner table or any meal so we engage properly at meals and are mindful of what we eat too.

  3. I hate to admit it but this is me. It's like I'm spending time with my kids still but really I'm not. I need to learn to just turn off sometimes for them and for myself. Life is too short to spend it with my face in my phone.

  4. I need to start reminding myself to put away the technology! I'm so guilty of it and I'm trying hard to make it right.

  5. I'll admit I've been blogging more this summer because I don't have to do school with the girls... :) and they've been happily playing with various things, like the LEGO they have out right now. (Yesterday I did build them several LEGO castles and that was fun.) I agree with you that spending time together (unplugged) is important. Thanks for the reminder to do that more often! :)

  6. I sometimes worry I spend too much time online (I know I do), and I have been trying to make sure I "live in the moment" a little more lately. While kids are used to all the electronics being around all the time, I think it's important to make sure we take time away from that and just experience things together - without a phone or tablet around.
