Marlene spent a lot of time with them, teaching them all about how to take care of horses and how to act around them. She showed them what each of the horses eat and the girls helped to get their food ready and feed them. I think it was a great learning experience for them, and was so happy that they could do it!
She uses this sled to move bales of hay for the horses, but on this day, the girls got a fun 4-wheeler ride around the property! :)
Thankfully, Marlene had boots in lots of sizes available, because it was messy business! I thought these little cowgirl boots were so cute :)
After taking care of the horses, it was time to get ready to ride them! Here's Katrina, all set with her gear:
The girls got to brush their horses (or pony ;) and put the saddles on with Marlene's guidance.
Then it was time to get on! Talia went first and learned how to guide her horse. This girl has always loved horses, so it was a really special experience for her.
Next it was Katrina's turn to ride "her" pony! Marlene even showed her jumping position and her horse "jumped" (okay, maybe walked) over the poles on the ground. :)
She had fun walking her horse around after that and was happy as could be.
I'll end with a photo of Ken with one of the horses. We didn't ride while we were there, but it was fun to watch the girls. I am so glad we were able to visit with family during our trip- it was so fun to get to know them better, and I'm so happy the girls were able to have this experience!
What a blast! My girls are a bit younger than yours and they've love when they've done pony rides on a halter lead in the past. I took horseback riding lessons when I was a kid, and I'm considering doing the same for my oldest.
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun- I know my oldest would LOVE to take lessons!
DeleteWhat a fun thing to do! I haven't ridden in *ages*, but it can be fun for the whole family. Its looks like your girls had a fab time! :)
