Montreal Temple, The Mint, & Beaver Tails!

I've already written about where we stayed, and some of the places we visited while we were in Ottawa and Montreal last month (and shared a video blog about it), but here's the whole reason for our stay!  The Montreal Quebec Temple of our church was having an open house.  Temples are very important to us because of our belief that when a couple is married in a temple, they are sealed to be together forever (even after death) and their family can be together forever.

In order to enter a temple, you need to be 12 years old so our girls have never been inside of the temple (even though we don't live too far from the Toronto temple, where we were married). We decided that this was an opportunity for them that we didn't want to pass up, so we made the plan to go!

The weather was cold and windy so we were happy about the warm tent outside of the temple with a large poster of the temple that you could have your photo taken in front of!  We're all warm and cozy and dressed up in the photo above, but we also wanted a photo of the real thing, so after we changed into our warmer casual clothes, we grabbed this shot as well:

Another place that we wanted to visit while in Ottawa was the Royal Canadian Mint. It was a cold and rainy run from the car to get there, and we were pretty damp on arrival, but it was worth it. :)

Here the girls are trying to lift a gold bar (details about that in our video below) inside the Mint. It was really cool to go on a tour at the mint and learn about how they make money!

Here's a shot in front of the Mint (it looks a bit like a castle!), and one of my favourite places that we visited was the Byward Market; specifically to get Beaver Tails!  I have only been to Ottawa once before, on a high school History trip, and I remember those Beaver Tails!  They were even more delicious than I remembered! (maybe especially because of the cold and rain.. you can see that in our video below ;)

Here's our vlog about this trip. It was a great time and I'm so happy we decided to do it!  We made some great memories and learned along the way. :)

  1. What a great way to jazz up a temple trip! It looks like you had a wonderful time with your adorable family. Now I'm off to (very carefully!) Google "beaver tail" to find out what it is! lol
