Our first stop along the way was the Hoover Dam.
I had been there before, but this was a first for Ken & the girls. We didn't do any tours or stay for very long, but we were sure to pull over in a place where we could get a good view, and grab a couple of photos. It's pretty impressive!
There weren't a lot of places to stop during this long drive, so when we spotted this random Flinstone Campground to the side of the road, we pulled over to explore. It was pretty cool! I'm not sure if it is still in use because there wasn't anyone around, but we could tell that there were more cool things on the other side of the wall and wished we had a way to see everything!
Our final main stop was the Grand Canyon. Ken had been there before, but it was my first time seeing it and wow, was it ever amazing! The photos just can't give you a full grasp of how huge it was!
It was kind of like seeing Niagara Falls. You just know that you'll never see anything like it in your life, and it's so majestic!
We stayed in a hotel that night, then spent many hours driving the next day. We were desperate to see something! In looking for a place to stop, I found out about Cadillac Ranch just in time for us to pull over and see it. It was such a weird creation, but it was really neat to see it! Apparently someone buried ten Cadillacs nose-first in the ground and people come and spray paint them all the time, so it is always changing. The amount of spray paint on these things is extreme!
That night we stayed in a cheap hotel that was pretty sketchy, in a city that made us nervous while we were out, looking for dinner. We got some sleep and got up and continued our drive quickly in the morning! We couldn't wait to get to Texas and spend some time with our family there!
Awesome roadtrip! I'd love to do this when my daughter is a little older. Also, love your photo scrapbook layout. Super cute.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that is quite the drive. Is it weird that I've been to Vegas SO many times, but I've never been to the Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon?
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I took a helicopter ride from Las Vegas over Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. It was amazing! I'd love to visit again with my kids.

ReplyDeleteBelieve it or Not I camped at that Flintstone Campground. Way back when I was 6 years old. It was really great but also very worn down.
