Mothers and Daughters (Heidi & Jayne)

In May I did a Mothers & Daughters photography project.
I spent a morning shooting photos of 5 different moms and 9 daughters.

As I work my way through them, I'm posting a few photos on the blog of each mother & daughter.

Here are Heidi & her daughter Jayne:

Mothers and Daughters (Frieda & Grace)

In May I did a Mothers & Daughters photography project.
I spent a morning shooting photos of 5 different moms and 9 daughters.

As I work my way through them, I'm posting a few photos on the blog of each mother & daughter.

Here are Frieda & her daughter Grace:

Grace is good friends with my girls. Frieda & I have known each other for a long time and are thrilled that we both have girls and can have little tea parties and princess playdates together. Grace and Katrina are in the same class at church together and nearly every week Katrina asks me if Gracie will be there.

When Katrina saw me working on these photos on the computer she said, "That's my Gracie!" :) We'll miss this family A LOT when they move soon!

I guess Grace had a good time with the photo shoot because when it was time to leave, she asked if they could stay and play with me some more. :)

Eventide

It's been a while since I've posted about a book!

Today, I want to share a book called Eventide by Tracy & Laura Hickman, from Shadow Mountain Publishing.

It's the first in a series called "Tales of the Dragon's Bard".

This is the story of the quest of a young man who feels unworthy of the hand of the woman he loves. It is also an amusing collection of glimpses into the other characters who live in the village of Eventide. From mischievious pixies, to the town gossip fairy, to the haunted mansion outside of town, to the gnombs (who legally do not exist), this book is full of amusing and frustrating occurences! Although they take place in a fantasy novel, with wish-women, dwarves, magic and dragons, you can totally see some of these things happening in "real life" in slightly different ways.

Just thinking back on some of the funny things that happen in the novel makes me want to tell you some stories from it. But I'll hold back so that you can fully enjoy the story when you read it!

Disclosure: I received this book through Deseret Book, from Shadow Mountain Publishing, free of charge for review purposes. I was not compensated in any other way for this post and the thoughts I'm sharing are my own.

Mothers & Daughters (Frieda & Emma)

I love photography. I've been taking kind of a break from doing photo sessions for probably a couple of years now. I occasionally do a session for someone (last year I did 2 engagement sessions- for my brother, and for my sister) and next week I'll be doing a family session for my sister. But mostly, I lay low. I expect to get back into things when both of my girls are in school. Still, there are times when I feel the desire to do something with photography, creatively.

This month I decided to do a Mothers & Daughters photography project. I sent out an email to gather some interested women and spent a morning shooting photos of 5 different moms and 9 daughters.

As I work my way through them, I'm going to post a few photos on the blog of each mother & daughter.

Here are Frieda & her daughter Emma:

I was thinking about linking to the photos I took of Emma when she was a newborn, but realized I had never posted them on the blog. Here is the "Parts Poster" that I made from that session:

Feature Friday (Mom 4 Real)

1. I love artichokes.
2. I am only 5 feet tall.
3. I listen to James Taylor when I clean and have since college.
4. I grew up in West Virginia.
5. I have an addiction to flossing...I guess there are worse things!

My blog is an outlet for my creativity. I love to share craft and DIY tutorials along with the occasional tips on organization and cooking. I really enjoy answering my readers questions and being inspired by other’s creativity. I actually started my blog as a way to vent about trying to get my children to eat healthier meals. It quickly turned into something else completely. I would definitely say that I am a craft blogger now. Mom 4 Real has even been nominated as one of Babble.com ‘s top 50 craft blogs! Super exciting!

Turn a Chalkboard into a Mirror
I took a hideously dark mirror and turned it into a chalkboard. I got a huge response on this project, and it was so simple to do!

Make a Camera Lens Catch Leash
I made a leash for my camera lense cap because I kept losing my lense cap...life saver!

Mason Jar Sewing Kit
I keep mine on my desk for quick use. It is so adorable and they make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, or kids going off to college.

Headband Holder
My daughter and I made this together...truth is, she did most of the work. Her headbands and ponytail holders were everywhere...this really helps to keep them organized.

Make a Puppet Theatre from a Pallet
I just posted this, and it is instantly one of my favorite projects, ever! I made this puppet theater out of a wooden pallet and now my daughter has a place to play and put on shows right in our own backyard...it was really easy too!

Welcome Summer! (Surprise Party on the Last Day of School :)

Last year on the last day of school, Katrina, Ken & I welcomed Talia home with a lot of fun!

We met Talia at her bus with a helium ballon. Katrina already had her face painted and we were ready to paint Talia's on arrival ;)

During the day Katrina & I made the welcome banner you see on the door in the photo above.

The backyard was all ready with water balloons, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, balls, etc.
We had so much fun & Talia was so excited! It was great that Ken could be home early enough to be part of it, too :)

When we came in from playing in the sun, I had this summery treat ready for them:

If you've got a little time to spare, before your kids' last day of school, see if you can't whip up a fun "Welcome to Summer" surprise party for them!
