March 2014 Sharing Time - Week 5

Welcome to March's Sharing Time Linky!

First, the week in review:

I started the week by sharing one of my new nieces' parts poster.

I also Vlogged last week! I told you all about my issues with brown sugar storage, finding the right rolling pin, and the search for a reusable drink container for my kids' lunches. If you have a solution for any of these issues, please tell me about it!

Are you having a Spring like ours <--a post with some funny videos about this.

Now, on to the link party! I can't wait to see what you share! :)

Thursday Thoughts: Vlogging

Happy Thursday!

You guys, it's been a couple of months since I discovered vlogs. (Well, I had heard of vlogs and seen vlogs before, but I discovered a couple of youtube channels that I liked for different reasons and ever since then, I keep thinking about trying vlogging and I cannot get it out of my head, so I thought I'd give it a whirl and see where it takes me (or at least get it out of my system ;)

The thing is that I don't have a particular purpose in mind for vlogs and I ask myself what would I vlog about that I wouldn't blog about? Finally I decided that I'd just do a vlog for "Thursday Thoughts" (besides I don't do Thursday Thoughts very often, so maybe this would get it going more, and maybe it would be a good place to put things that I don't always feel like writing about). ANYWAY, today I give you my first Thursday Thoughts Vlog.

It's nothing earth-shattering, it's just a couple of things that have been on my mind & I wonder if you have any thoughts or solutions for me! I'm just chatting with (at?) you about the same things I would if we were just hanging out.

Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think- to vlog or not to vlog? Do you want me to do this again? Maybe with a more interesting topic? What would you like to see me vlog about? Do you care? haha :) If I don't hear any feedback from you, who knows what I'll do, but I do hope that vlogging might make you feel more open to sharing your thoughts with me and leaving comments more often- it's fun to actually communicate with people who are reading this blog! (or watching this vlog in today's case).

Thanks for watching! :)

Lydia's Parts Poster

It has become kind of a tradition to do these "Parts Posters" for new babies in my family when they come.
My sister in law had a baby girl in December and we got together to get these photos a while ago so that I could put one together for her. What a sweet little girl- I love being an auntie and getting to hold and snuggle these sweet little babies!

Here's her big sister's parts poster from back in 2010.

March 2014 Sharing Time - Week 4

Welcome to March's Sharing Time Linky!

First, the week in review:

I started the week by sharing Newborn Photos of one of my new nieces.

Next, I shared a review of the book, One Little Match.

Photos and a description of our #DisneySide party are here.

I shared what we did on our Spring Break Getaway last week.

I should put "Spring" in quotes because it sure didn't seem like Spring!

And last, I shared a list of great LDS Baptism Books (a good post to pin for reference later!)

Now, on to the link party! I can't wait to see what you share! :)

LDS Baptism Books

Last week I told you a bit about LDS Baptism. Today I want to share with you (especially those of you who are LDS and have children who are approaching their 7th birthday) some awesome LDS Baptism Books that can be great resources for you as you try to prepare your child for baptism.

Deseret Book sent me some of these books to check out and I want to share our experience with them, with you!

So, the first book is called Baptized and Confirmed: Your Lifeline to Heaven by Elaine Cannon.

I read this book (a chapter at a time) to Talia for a couple of months leading up to her baptism (we didn't read it every night and I wanted time to talk about what we read and make sure she understood everything). It was first printed in 1986 (before I was baptized ;) and you can totally tell by the photo on the front. :) But of course the things that Elaine Cannon (the author) wrote about all apply to today. It is written to the child, as if she is speaking to them. There are questions and stories to illustrate the topics discussed in each chapter. There is a glossary at the back of the book to explain some of the vocabulary in the book (I found this handy because the words in the glossary are bolded throughout the book, so it reminded me to stop & make sure Talia understood them as I read. Another thing that I liked about this book was that it listed scriptures to look up. We didn't always look them up, but I plan to go back through the book with Talia to look up and mark some of these scriptures in her new scriptures (that she got for her baptism from her grandparents). I thought this book was great for a review of what she had already learned (and a great way for me to be able to make sure that she understood the things she had been taught).

The next book is called My Baptism Keepsake by Sara Staker.

You all know how much I love photography and I loved this book largely because of the photos! It is an ABC book. Each spread has one page with a photo on it and one page with a letter of the alphabet, something gospel-related that it stands for (that relates to baptism) and an explanation.

It may be hard to tell from the photo above, but this book has a beautiful black hardcover with a frame opening for you to put your child's photo behind. In the middle of the book, for the letter M ("Memories") there are a few pages for you to fill in with information like the date of your baptism, who baptized you, who spoke during the program, what songs you sang, the thing you liked most, details about your confirmation and things you remember about it, as well as a spot for you to list the guests who attended your baptism and paste in photos from the day. (But even if you choose not to use the book as a place to record information, it is an excellent picture book!)

The next book is My Baptism Memories by Val Chadwick Bagley

This is the book we used for recording information about Tala's baptism. The whole book is about writing down information about the child, their parents, grandparents, and their baptism. We brought it with us to her baptism and put it out on a table for guests to sign and write little notes to her. I really like this book a lot! It's cute and kid-oriented with Val's animation throughout, and it has places to glue in photographs (I'm looking forward to adding more photos to ours!) I love that it's hardcover and I can't really complain about it at all.

The next book is called What Are the Promises I Make at Baptism?
by Michele Leigh Carnesecca and Carol Shelley Xanthos.

This one is a storybook that teaches about the covenants made at baptism. It explains everything in simple terms with easy-to-understand examples of how children can apply the information in their lives. It's 30 pages long. I really like this one a lot and I've ordered the sequel to this book, called How Does the Holy Ghost Make Me Feel?

The last book is called White Dresses by Deborah Pace Rowley.

This is another storybook, it's written to the little girl being baptised, from her father.  He talks about his experience baptising her and reflects on her baby blessing day when she wore her first white dress.  He talks about the things she teaches him and the ways she blesses his life.  The book teaches (through the father's words) about the Holy Ghost and things like the scriptures, family prayer, family home evening, and the Word of Wisdom.  The father talks about the future when the girl will be able to enter the temple, how she'll grow up and eventually get engaged and wear her third white dress in the temple on her wedding day.  As if the book weren't enough of a tear-jerker with just these things, it ends with imagining the day that they will meet again in heaven, dressed in white.  Seriously, this book makes me cry just as I describe it to you!  :)

All of these books are such excellent tools for helping your child to prepare for baptism and for recording the special details and memories from that special event in your child's life. I hope I've been able to give you some more details about the books than you would find online elsewhere, to help you if you're shopping for something like this!

If you're interested in purchasing any of the books, you can just click on the title of the book (which is a link) and it will take you to Deseret Book's website, to the page where you can purchase that book.
