Morning Schedule Chart

We're getting ready for school over here and it was time to make a Morning Routine Chart! We've gotten a bit more detailed since the morning routine chart we made in January.

Here's what we came up with this time:

You can find these little icons on (I googled to find some of the ones that weren't from that website)

Now we're working on making a job/responsibility chart for Talia- I'm making a list of things she can do, and then I need to decide how much I want her to be responsible for without overwhelming her. I'd like to have an official chart (we haven't done this yet, and feel it's time). Any suggestions? Websites with good ideas? Things that worked (or didn't) for you? Let me know in the comments!

Melanie & Madeleine ~ Portraits

Melanie won a session from me in a contest. She and her friend Madeleine and I got together to do some portraits this summer in downtown Kitchener. They are both into modelling, so this was a new experience for me!

Here are a few of my favourites of Mel:

And my absolute favourites from the session:

Thanks for a fun session, ladies!

Superhero Birthday Party!

Back in June, I posted about a birthday party that we went to for one of Talia's friends. It was all put on by his mom, my friend Kristina. It was AMAZING! I had so much fun, just watching the kids & thinking about how fun it would have been to go to a party like that when I was little!!

Here are some pictures from the day:

Things this mom did to make the day special:

1. Sewed a personalized Superhero Cape & Mask for each child
2. Made (with her boys, ahead of time) an awesome monster pinata for the superheros to defeat on the day of the party
3. Made the amazing superhero cake you see in the photos
4. Had games to test their superhero strength and speed, etc. (with fun prizes)
5. Had an obstacle course in the playroom (that involved climbing through a cave, flying over a city, jumping off of a table into a pool full of balls (SO FUN!!), and more!

Such a fun party idea! Now, someday, I hope to make a superhero cape for Katrina... one more sewing project to add to my ever-growing list! ;)

Fun with Dry Ice!

Ken works in a hospital, in a lab, doing research for his PhD. One day he came home with some dry ice and he & the girls had a lot of fun with it!

PLEASE NOTE: Dry ice is dangerous!!! In our case, we had Ken supervising very carefully- it's not good to actually touch the ice! If you want more info about dry ice, you can find it online!

Pretty sure this is what he did:

- Fill pot with dish soap & HOT water, in sink
- add dry ice, watch steamy/bubbly stuff bubble up
- squish the steamy stuff & watch it float away like mist!

Rain Painting!

I saw this fun rain painting idea at Little Page Turners.

You'll Need:

- card stock
- Food colouring
- Rain (preferably not pouring)

Here we are, having fun!

A Tip: Beware the food colouring!!! (Katrina's coat let the colour drip right off, Talia's wasn't exactly a rain coat, so it stayed on hers- I threw it in the wash right away, and luckily saved it! So, I recommend being careful about where you hold the paper- for us, the rain was splattering the food colouring right up, onto their clothes!)

Check out Little Page Turners to see what they did with their finished product! Our's looks cool with all of the colours, but we haven't used it for anything yet! :)

Personalized ABC Book

I made this ABC Book for my girls, from a Heritage Makers template. It was so easy to do - just upload your photos, change a few of the words, and publish! I love it!

Can't wait to show you a similar project that I should be receiving in the mail any day now!

(You'll notice my little product notes in the photo- if you didn't arleady know this, I'm a Heritage Makers consultant ;) So, if you want to make your own, you can sign up under me & I'm here for you when you have questions- just shoot me an email! :)

And if you're interested in becoming a consultant, let me know & I can send you some great info! :)

Personalized Bracelet- Last Chance!

I recently received my personalized keepsake bracelet from Heritage Makers!
I really love it!

I wanted to share it with you now because Heritage Makers has decided not to sell photo jewellery much longer (at least for now). So, August is the last month to order! They're having a sale as well, so it's the perfect time, and last chance to get one for yourself! If you're interested, there is also a necklace available (with 1 or 3 charms, and you can order extras).

If you want to order one, just click here to sign up for a free account & get started, or send me an email & I can help you out! :)

Sidewalk Paint

I love the idea of sidewalk paint! My friend Cheryl posted about making some & when I saw how easy it was to make, I knew we had to do it this summer!

So, we set out to do it & look how fun it looks!

Here's How to Do It:

1. mix equal parts cornstarch & water (I think we did a half of a cup of each and it was just enough for us to play with- when we ran out of it, we were ready to be done). As you can see from the pictures above, Katrina had fun mixing- it's nice that she's old enough to take part now!

2. add food colouring! (we love this part- so fun to mix!) Talia did the colour mixing. We only added one or two drops to each colour, and we made 4 different colours. Most of our paint dried to be almost white, so I'd suggest using a bit more food colouring- just be careful not to go overboard or you'll have some colourful mess ;)

3. Get some brushes, go outside, & be artistic! :)
Talia & Katrina started picking things from the lawn & using them as paint brushes- so creative! ;) You'll also notice that Katrina saw the paint brush & immediately thought nail polish & went to work decorating her toes ;)

This was such a fun activity! Definitely do it!

Dad's Rootbeer

Another Father's Day post in July... (but this is the last one for 2010 ;)

This was my take on Amber's Rootbeer Tour... I used some of her labels for fun, but really I used all Dad's Rootbeer, because that's what Ken likes :)

Review & Giveaway - Ari's Bow-tique

A while ago I came across Ari's Bow-tique on Etsy & I loved the look of her products. She sent the girls & I some products to try out & I was not disappointed! I was so impressed!

The thing I love most about her hair products is the no-slip feature! It REALLY WORKS! And I'm telling you, Katrina's hair is NOT good for holding clips- it's whispy and fine and there's not a ton of it ;) Talia's hair IS thick and there is a lot of it, and we loved the products for her as well!

Lorena pays such attention to detail- the bows on the clips were perfect! She does a very nice job- they're beautiful!

She has some other products in her shop as well, so you'll definitely want to check it out!

Oh, and just another reason why Lorena is so great? She's going to send one of you this amazing back to school set of clippies, worth $67.50!

Here's Lorena's description of this package she has put together for you:
There are 13 solid tuxedo bow clippies and 13 theme clippies for various occasions throughout the year. There is one for someone in the U.S. and a little bow clippie for a Canadian winner. This would be a great set for "first timers" going to school or any little one going "back to school".

Sooo... You want to win??

Tie for Dad

We made this tie for Ken for Father's Day (a wee bit late in sharing this, I know- I've got a lot to catch up on! We've been busy around here!!)

What We Did:

1. Traced one of his regular ties to get the size & shape right (onto 2 pieces of cardstock, which we cut out & taped together).
2. Used blue streamers to wrap around & around the tie (taping at the back, as necessary)
3. Decorated with markers
4. Hole- punched 2 holes at the top, sides
5. Added string

And Voila! A beautiful tie for Dad to wear to church on Father's Day! :)

Note: You might try reinforcing the streamers by laminating it- this tie needed a few touch ups throughout the day as the tissue paper rubbed on things.
