Recharging Mind, Body, and Spirit at Ste. Anne's Spa

I invite you to visit Ste. Anne's Spa with me through the photographs and descriptions in this post. My hope is that it will be an opportunity for recharging mind, body, and spirit- virtually!

As mothers, we all have times when we just become overwhelmed with the responsibilities in our lives and we need to give ourselves some time to relax, to nurture ourselves, to take a break and to recharge. Sometimes I am able to accomplish this by going out on a girls' night with a friend and taking a few hours to sit and sip hot chocolate while talking about life as a mother and the different challenges we are each facing and things we are learning along the way. Sometimes I can get the break I need by just taking some time to read a book by myself or paint my nails or take a bubble bath!

Ontario Canada Travel Blog Review of Ste. Anne's Spa

Note: This post was originally published several years ago, but I wanted to share it again because it's still relevant and it was a wonderful experience worth revisiting! The spa has undergone some additions and improvements since our visit, but my overall thoughts remain the same!

A couple of weeks ago, my mom and I found a bigger way to escape together from the pressures of our daily lives, to a spa resort in Ontario, and it was amazing! We took a long drive to a beautiful destination called Ste. Anne's Spa in Haldimand Hills, Ontario. It was a dream experience!

Cottage Rentals in Eastern Ontario - Loughborough Inn

We weren't looking for cottage rentals in Eastern Ontario at the time. We were looking for a hotel in the heart of downtown Kingston while our family relocated for my husband's job. Instead we found ourselves living north of the city on the shore of Loughborough Lake, surrounded by the peace and beauty of nature in a cottage at Loughborough Inn for the month of August.

Cottage Rentals in Eastern Ontario

Our booking was quite last minute so there wasn't one, single cottage available for the full duration of our stay which meant that we had the opportunity to stay in a couple of different cottages. Of course, we got pretty familiar with all that Loughborough Inn has to offer its guests, so you can take our experience and the details I'll share into consideration in case you want to plan your own family getaway in Ontario!

Disney's Epcot in One Day - Our Top 10

After our last Disney trip, I promised that I would write a post about each of the parks at Disney World in Florida, and our favourite things to do at each. Today it's Epcot's turn, so here's what we'd recommend if you're going to do Epcot in one day.

Epcot Top 10 Disney World with Kids

Epcot is like a mini trip around the world, under the sea, and into outer space. While it includes many attractions and experiences tailored to children, I often think of it as the park I'd be most interested in attending as a couple or with just a group of adults. That being said, we visited as a family, so these top 10 will be keeping a family trip in mind.

How to Have a Great Staycation

Shortly after we moved to Utah, I was on FOX 13’s lifestyle T.V. show, The PLACE, discussing tips for how to have a great Staycation!

As we're down to about a month of summer, I thought I'd share those tips here again, along with a few links to resources on the blog that will give you some more specific or detailed ideas and inspiration for planning your own Staycation!

Ideas for Family Staycations

Happy Staycation planning!

Here's the video first, and then I'll outline all of my tips (not all of them were in the video)

Top Notch Lobster Fishing Excursion (Prince Edward Island)

If you're planning a trip to P.E.I., you'll want to know about the Top Notch Lobster Fishing Tour because it was one of our favourite experiences!

~*~

Without a doubt, if you ask Ken what his favourite experience of our entire Eastern Canada road trip was, he'll tell you about our lobster fishing tour! It's definitely up there in my top moments, too. This was SUCH a memorable, educational, delicious, and fun experience!

Things to do in Cavendish PEI (Our P.E.I. Vacation)

This post shares some great things to do in Cavendish PEI.  We went on a P.E.I. vacation with our kids in 2017- it was an awesome trip across Eastern Canada, from Ontario to Prince Edward Island.

Now that travel is more available after the pandemic, I'm sharing this post as it's the perfect time of year to start thinking about planning your own trip! Perhaps seeing what we did will give you some ideas or inspiration for your own trip!  (This post was originally shared on August 28th, 2017)

I've always loved nature. One of the things I love most about L.M. Montgomery's books is her descriptions of the beauty of her surroundings in Prince Edward Island. I always hoped I would be able to see it in person someday. When we arrived at Cavendish Beach, I came over a grassy hill to take in an idyllic view: sandy beach surrounded by red cliffs with blue skies. I had a moment to myself, feeling very alive and like I had "made it" to a place in time that I had spent years thinking of while never being quite sure that I would make it. It was pretty awesome and I'm glad I got to share it with my little family!

Best Moon Palace Restaurants

Let's talk about the best Moon Palace Restaurants!

I recently posted about our return to Moon Palace Cancun, in Cancun, Mexico with our kids. In that post, I shared photos of our room and the pools but today I want to share one of our favourite things about the resort: the food! The resort is very large and includes more restaurants than you could attend during a week-long stay, but here are the ones we visited and loved! (Some of which, we remembered from our first visit to Mexico, 6 years ago!

The resort is all-inclusive, so all food (including room service) is included with the price you pay to visit. This is one of our favourite things because it eliminates so much stress from making the decision of what to eat each day, and how much to spend! It's especially great with kids, to be able to say yes to lots of things without worrying about an extra cost!

Disney's Animal Kingdom - Our Top 10

Animal Kingdom is one of 4 parks that make up Disney World in Florida. I'm sharing our top 10 things to do at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park in Florida, to help you plan your own trip someday!

Animal Kingdom is where you'll see real animals and celebrate life on this planet (and others!). We really enjoyed this park the first time we visited but it is even better now that you can pay a visit to Pandora!

Magic Kingdom Top 10 Disney World

We've put together our 10 favorite things about Animal Kingdom in this post. If you'd like to see our top 10 parts of the other Disney World parks, you can find links to those posts at the end of this one. If you have any questions about any of it, please feel free to ask me in the comments!

Our Family Trip to Moon Palace Cancun

We surprised our kids with an early Christmas this year and told them we'd be going to Mexico for a week in December, with some of their aunts, uncles, & cousins! We had a great trip and I have been looking forward to sharing photos with you here, and filling you in on the resort we visited. There have been quite a few questions about Moon Palace since I started sharing our trip in my Instagram stories!

Blog Review of Moon Palace Resort in Mexico

Ken & I went to Mexico 6 years ago, for our 10th anniversary and we loved the resort we stayed at in Cancun. We dreamed of going back to Mexico someday with our kids, but weren't sure how we would make it happen. Then a year ago, Ken's sister & her husband went to Mexico for their anniversary and ended up becoming members of the Palace Vacation Club (which meant that they had a certain number of discounted weeks at Palace resorts) and they offered the discount to us and some other family members. We were so excited to be able to make this trip happen, and to do it with some of Ken's family and our kids' cousins! We also partnered with Palace Resorts who upgraded our room to a Family Suite so we could show you all of the special features available at the resort for families with kids, and I can't wait to show you!

Road Trip Stops (between Las Vegas & Dallas)

After a couple of nights in Las Vegas, we got back in the car and started driving toward Texas. It was a lot of driving but we found a couple of places to stop along the way! (Full map with details later in the post)

Our first stop along the way was the Hoover Dam.

Las Vegas, Nevada (Moving Road Trip)

Back in Utah when we booked our hotel for two nights in Las Vegas, we chose Circus Circus because we found a great deal and because it included a water park! We didn't tell the girls where we were staying for this stop because we wanted to surprise them. Although we stayed in an older room that didn't have anything special about it, we were positioned just across the street from the waterpark which served our purposes just fine!

Visiting Las Vegas Nevada with Kids

Here are a few of our must-see stops in Vegas when you're traveling with kids and need some ideas of things to do in Vegas besides gamble!

St. George, Utah (Moving Road Trip)

Halfway through March, with snow in the mountains and cold in the air, we said one last goodbye to my sister and her kids, we walked out of their house, got into our car and started driving away from our home in Herriman, Utah.

I was relieved because we were finally finished packing and emptying our townhouse. I was excited for our road trip and the adventures ahead of us.

Those feelings of anticipation were mixed up with the sudden pushing through of the feelings of sadness, loss, and uncertainty that came with leaving our new home in Utah that I was finally beginning to feel settled in. I had struggled to plant roots in this new place and it seemed that just as they were beginning to take hold, I found myself pulling them up without a clear vision of where I would soon be attempting to plant them once again.

Disney's Magic Kingdom - Our Top 10

There is so much to learn about Walt Disney World if you haven't been there before! That's why I decided to do a post about each of Disney's parks and today we're focusing on Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom Top 10 Disney World

Magic Kingdom is broken up into several different areas or "lands", so I'll also share which land each of these activities is located in. I highly suggest that as you plan your trip, you get familiar with a map so you can plan your route, to avoid too much walking!

There are so many things to do in the Magic Kingdom so it's not easy to limit it to 10 things, but we took a vote and these are our Top 10!

Driving from Ontario to Utah!

After a whirlwind one week to pack up our life and prepare for a move from Canada to the United States, we were finally ready, all 4 visas in hand, to start driving to Utah!

We left later than planned and we didn't have a plan for where we would stop each night (beyond the 1st two nights), but we figured it out as we went & had some good adventures along the way!

Disney's Hollywood Studios - Our Top 10

If you haven't been to Disney World you might not realize that it's actually made up of 4 different parks! We went to Disney World for the first time in 2016 and were invited to the 2018 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration which we attended in February. Now that we've been to Disney World twice, I'm sharing our top 10 things to do at each of Disney's parks, starting with Hollywood Studios! Hollywood Studios is all about the worlds of movies, television, music, and theater.

Here are our family's top 10 things to do in Disney's Hollywood Studios!

Charlottetown Prince Edward Island - Road Trip with Kids

Last summer we had such an awesome road trip across Eastern Canada! I thought it would be fun to revisit some of those experiences by sharing them again. It's the perfect time of year to start thinking about planning your own trip and maybe seeing what we did will give you some ideas or inspiration for your own trip!  (This post was originally shared on August 25th, 2017)

~*~

The idea for our road trip across Eastern Canada came to life one night while the girls and I sat, cuddled up on the couch, watching Anne of Green Gables. I knew I wanted to go someday, but that's when I really started thinking about doing it this year. We spent three nights in Prince Edward Island and most of our time in and around Charlottetown or Cavendish. This post is all about our Charlottetown adventures!

A Couple's Getaway to Ste. Anne's Spa in Winter

The first time I visited Ste. Anne's Spa, I went for a mother's day getaway with my mom. The weather was beautiful, the grounds were in full bloom, and there was plenty to do both inside and out. It was heavenly! How would a visit with my husband, in winter, compare to that? We visited last week and I'm ready to tell you all about it!

40 by 40 Bucket List

A year ago, we visited family in the U.S. and while we were staying with Ken's sister, their family had a goal-setting meeting. My brother-in-law led the discussion, handing out a few worksheets for each of us, to help us think about what we wanted to do, and decide where to put our focus. One of the worksheets encouraged us to make a list of 50 things we wanted to do in the next 5 years. We were encouraged to write quickly and not make judgments about whether we could actually accomplish the things we wrote. We kept our lists and reviewed them as a family last week and then we updated them with a few new goals, marking off the ones we had already accomplished.

Shortly after reviewing my own list, I saw a post by one of the bloggers I follow, who published a "40 by 40" bucket list of things she wants to accomplish before her 40th birthday this year. I realized that just over 5 years from when we wrote our first lists of 50 things, I will turn 40 (just over 4 years to go!). I'm posting my own "40 by 40 Bucket List" here, to keep track of which things happen. I'm trying not to limit myself by writing things down whether I know how I would accomplish them or not.

Some of the things I put on my list a year ago have already been accomplished and help remind me that even when you feel like you're dreaming of something impossible, if you just allow yourself to believe that it's possible, you just might find a way to make it happen!

Canada 150 Travel Photography & Fuji X-A3 Camera Giveaway!

Our summer road trip across Eastern Canada was fabulous. If you haven't had a chance to read about it yet, click here to find those posts. I had so many photos I wanted to share with you that I couldn't fit them all into those posts!

The photos I'll share today are some of my favourite photographs without people in them and I think they really showcase the kind of photography the Fuji X-A3 is capable of. At the end of the post, you'll have a chance to win your own Fuji X-A3 camera in a giveaway!

Note: I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

Parks Canada Xplorers Program for Kids

During our Eastern Canada Road Trip, we discovered that Parks Canada has a special Xplorers Program for kids and families. At some Parks Canada locations, they will give your children an Xplorers booklet filled with fun activities and tasks to accomplish. During your visit, your children complete some of them and at the end of the visit, they receive a certificate and a little "dog tag" style souvenir that shows where they went.

We discovered this while we were on Prince Edward Island. I wish we had known about it at the start of our trip because it would have been so nice to have stopped at Canada Parks in each province that we visited! We got pretty close on our way back home, though!
