It has been a rough few weeks for our family, with everything that's been going on with our home this month, so I am very ready for the hope, promise, and beautiful weather that come along with Spring!

We can all identify the subtle signs of spring - birds chirping, longer days and blooming flowers. The warmer weather signifies a fresh start with more time outdoors, bringing your garden back to life, and of course, spring cleaning! While these telltale signs are positive for the most part, its common to feel unprepared when the new season comes so quickly (even when you've been waiting so long for its arrival!).

Here are a few things that signify spring is around the corner, with tips for a smooth transition:

1. Your car is begging for a cleaning.

As soon as the weather warms up, it's time to send the kids outside with a plastic shopping bag to gather all the random bits of garbage in the back seat. Our girls have always loved helping to clean the outside of the car too- it makes for a fun family activity, a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather, and it solves the messy winter car problem!

2. Your eyes, nose, and skin... are itchy.

Unfortunately for many of us, this time of year is also known as allergy season. When there aren’t enough tissues to keep your nose from running, it’s time to break out some serious allergy relief. Aerius tablets are clinically proven to relieve 15 different allergy symptoms for up to 24 hours. You can also try Claritin Rapid Dissolve for fast 24-hour relief of your indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms. The tablet dissolves instantly on the tongue, with no water needed – perfect for on the go!

3. It’s raining a lot.

Preparing for a Rainy Spring

We’ve finally moved on from the snowy weather but now it’s time to welcome the rain. While it’s nice to look at from the right side of a window, there’s nothing worse than getting unexpectedly soaked. Invest in a travel-sized, lightweight umbrella you can fit in your bag for those sporadic rainy days. Spring is known for its rain, it doesn’t have to be known for bad hair days too!

4. It’s time to pack away the winter boots.

Over the winter many of us get lazy from spending our time indoors and avoiding the cold weather. Now that spring is here it’s time to step into your spring shoes and get more active! Stroll comfortably this spring with Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles for all-day comfort, so you can take advantage of the warmer weather without getting tired feet.

Spring Allergy Preparation and Relief

If you’re starting from scratch, start slow by increasing your steps. Make a list of things in the area you’d like to visit on foot so you have it handy when you’re looking for a fun weekend activity. A couple of years ago, I tried this with my girls. We took a very long walk to our local library (it required mapping out a route and packing snacks). It was such a fun memory!

5. You’re due for a thorough spring cleaning.

As many of you know from my recent post, we've had an unexpected & very thorough head start on spring cleaning, thanks to a lot of smoke damage. We had to open our windows a little earlier than we would've liked, to try and freshen up our home (& it's gonna take a lot more than some fresh air for us), but for the rest of you, as soon as that sun is out and the weather a little warmer, you can take the opportunity to open windows & freshen up your home

Getting Rid of things during Spring Cleaning
Just one of our many recent purge piles

While you tidy up, set aside lightly used items that you no longer need. There’s no better feeling than reducing clutter and helping those in need while you do it. Now that we've experienced this on such a large scale, I can really speak from experience on this one- it can be freeing to lighten your load!

Spring is the light at the end of the winter tunnel and with a little preparation your transition into the new season will be seamless!

  1. Great post Heather! I live on the east coast, and one of my favorite signs of the springtime is the trees starting to bloom, especially the cherry blossoms in DC! Despite how much my family loves the spring, allergies are always the worst now. One thing that always helps is having our carpets and upholstery professionally cleaned. Leaves the home feeling a lot more fresh. Also could help your home after the smoke damage!

    1. Yep, allergies are no fun! We have tree pollen allergies at our house, so we know that all too well!

  2. Oh no! I didn't know you had smoke damage there. That is awful. Good for you getting a jump on spring cleaning though. I am slowly getting there a bit at a time. My kids are super busy right now with their plays so that means I am also busy BUT that said I can easily take some time when they are out to remove old items that no longer fit or that clutter up this home.

    1. Yep, it has been quite the ordeal! It's definitely easier to purge when everything wreaks! ;)

  3. I love spring more than it loves me, lol. I love the fresh, crisp cool air, but it also means allergies and migraines, urgh.

Am going to have to try those Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel inserts! They look awesome. :D

  4. thanks for sharing we use Claritin and it works, allergy season is horrible!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment- I love reading them! :)
