Tutorial Tuesday (Canned Gifts!)

Tutorial Tuesday (Canned Gifts!)

I was so excited by this fun idea when I found it on Our Best Bites.

I knew I had to try it!

Here's what mine turned out like:
How to Put a Gift inside a Can by www.RaisingMemories.com

So, you get little tin cans & you open them with a can opener (the kind of opener shown in the picture that doesn't leave the lid sharp), fill them with treats, close them up again, and give them as a surprise-inside-gift!

Start with your cans (preferably the kind with a tab on top) & a can opener. I used lunch-sized fruit cup cans.

Remove the label and open the cans at the bottom (empty the can and wash and dry) and fill them with whatever treat or gift you want to give.

Bunch up some tissue paper to fill the bottom of the can (this prevents hot glue from getting on your treat/gift in the next step).

Glue the "lid" back onto the bottom.

Cut scrapbook paper to fit your can and cover it to make it look cute. The messy glue job is fairly well hidden at the bottom of the can.

Once you've gotten this far, you can dress up your cans with ribbon on the tab and label the side of your cans!

I made my own labels to fit my small cans, but you can find a cute printable at Our Best Bites if you're using the right size of can for them!

I can't wait to use this idea for other things- I think they're so fun!

  1. Too stinkin' cute! I'm going to be making these for Christmas this year. Thank you so much for sharing!

  2. Great idea! I love how simple it is! These would make great party favors for my niece's party next month! =)

  3. {Melinda} Love this! Adorable -- and easy. My kids are older, but I still think they'd love getting these. Who doesn't like surprise treats? I still do! :)

  4. I never thought of using those little tins. In the US you can get corn and things in poptops and I was so sad when I found out you can't get them here. These would be great for an advent calendar!

  5. These are so cute. I can't wait to show my tween...she loves creative crafts. Me, I try hard but lack some skillz in that department so I always find the crafty blogs and ideas for her and I to do together.

I am linking up with you from the August THE BLOG HOP.....I know I know...I'm late. There is like 400 some people to browse through to see if you like their sites...LOL I'm going to link up on FB. Hope you like my blog.

  6. I love this idea! I am going to do some Pringle size for Christmas gift.

  7. Oh my, what a cute idea! I am obsessed with gift packaging. I am definitely pinning this for later :)
I would love to have you add this to a collective link party I co-host, Eat Make Grow: http://www.hideousdreadfulstinky.com/2012/08/eat-make-grow-thursday-5.html
I host along with two other bloggers, so one link shows up on all three blogs, and we feature a couple of bloggers each week. We're always looking for great content like this! Hope to see you over there.

  8. Adorable idea!!!
